Story #16: YouTube Removed Dislikes

 

Yes, I know this isn’t exactly an original topic, but I wanted to discuss it as I have very strong feelings about it. Shocking, I know. Nobody feels strongly about this topic! Especially not internet dwellers! This is ridiculous! But I’ll stop being a sarcastic cynic and get on with it.

So, shockingly, YouTube has performed their famous special move: adding a useless update that only makes things worse! And I thought two pre-roll ads were bad. But, well, this is significantly worse. Remember how clickbait is a problem? Well never fear, there’ll be no clickbait anymore! Haha, just kidding, it’s thriving under the new dislike removal! Clickbait is absolutely living it up right now! Because now you can’t just hit dislike on a crappy video. Now dislikes are only visible to the creators!

Now this raises an interesting question: if dislikes were removed to protect creators from “dislike mobs” (like those actually exist), why, just why, are they still visible to the creators? I thought the entire reason YouTube did this crap was to protect creators with incredibly small egos, but that doesn’t even work! They can literally still see them! Makes you wonder if YouTube had an alternative reason for removing them. But hey, now at least YouTube doesn’t have to feel bad the most disliked video on their platform is made by them! Glad we can protect the ego of a huge corporation.

You know, you’d think I’d be grateful dislikes were removed, considering many of my old videos (that’s right I have a YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaYDJqbO4Q5e7e_AQi5IvPw)) were mass disliked for the horrid crime of being a child and doing things children do. But no, I’m really peeved off they’re gone. Why, you may ask? Because I don’t get defensive when someone dislikes my channel. I simply take their criticism and use it to better my channel. Unless they’re just saying “This video is cring” because that’s not very helpful. And yes, that’s a real comment I got. I love YouTube.

So in conclusion, YouTube no dislike bad. I’m glad I got to share this #unpopularopinion with you.
